You know you’re in Maryland when you go to a baseball game food counter and they’re serving crab cakes. Today we took in a minor league ball game at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick where the Keys played the Lynchburg Hillcats (and won 7-2).
There are quite a few references to Francis Scott Key (who wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner”) in Frederick because Francis Scott Key’s birthplace was, at that time, Frederick County. Here is something I just learned today in a Wikipedia article: The author F. Scott Fitzgerald is Francis Scott Key’s distant cousin and was named after him — Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald.
Last year at the ballpark, they had marinated portobello burgers with sweet potato fries, which they do not have this year unfortunately. But besides the crab cakes, they do have Asian wraps and black bean burgers. It’s really nice to see healthier food offerings at a public event, and a great sign that people are celebrating real food.
