Pesticides, Dirty Dozen

Two strawberries on the plant
One of my cute strawberry plants that I have along the front sidewalk – chemical free!

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), consumers can reduce their pesticide exposure by 80% by avoiding the most contaminated fruits and vegetables. Definitely check out their list of the Dirty Dozen, and the Clean Fifteen is interesting too.

It’s really helpful information, especially if you cannot afford to buy everything organic right now — at least you can protect your family from the most dangerous pesticide-filled foods. The top three worst things to buy non-organic are apples, strawberries, and grapes. You cannot wash them enough so that is not an alternative to buying organic – the pesticides are inside the fruit and the seeds, not just on the skin so peeling doesn’t get rid of it either.
