Vintage

The new restaurant, Vintage, opened on Main Street in New Market, MD, early September. I told you about it in July when they were still just a Farmer’s Market. It’s a local ingredient focused menu getting supplies from a number of area farms. Their theme is “elevated comfort food.”We ate there a few weeks after they opened, and overall did not feel the casual atmosphere warranted the prices so might not go back with the kids, although it’s nice for a special occasion. We did not order from the entrée section, which ran about $25-32; my son had a $12 burger and luckily my daughter wasn’t in tow. Tony ordered chicken waffles which was not what we picture as sort of the Pennsylvania traditional shredded chicken gravy over waffles; it was fried chicken beside waffles with syrup. Also, he’s not used to eating fried food and didn’t feel very well afterward. I had vegetable risotto which was the best I’ve ever had. It was very rich, flavorful, and cheesy. There was plenty for at least two meals, so at almost $20 they could easily cut it in half and charge half the price.

We ordered two desserts that were a bit over the top. For example, a vanilla mouse and cornbread disc with salty caramel topping, toasted coconut, and crushed caramel popcorn was an odd combination; the popcorn wasn’t crisp because of the sauce ($8). Get this for a fudge brownie accompaniment: milk crumbs, house fudge sauce, walnut crumb, banana marshmallow, vanilla ice cream, pretzel, rice crispy treat, and caramel sauce ($9). It was too much to distinguish what was what.
Two desserts and a candle. The menu changes quite often since it’s seasonal, so they have different specials by now.  You can also sit at the bar in an adjoining room.
